Be Extraordinary NOW!

I felt the direction during conference that I am to begin a daily study of ‘Daughters in My Kingdom.'
Sister Julie Beck was released Saturday as the General Relief Society President. She has been a noble and valiant woman of righteousness and courage. I greatly admire her. No frills, no fluff, just the truth. Awesome! This work will be a part of her great legacy to the woman of the Church.

From the First Presidency: ‘We encourage you to study this book and allow its timeless truths and inspiring examples to influence your lives.’

Daughters in My Kingdom:
The History and Work of Relief Society
Preface: “Something Extraordinary”

In the first meeting of the Relief Society, Sister Emma Smith said, “We are going to do something extraordinary.” She was right. The history of Relief Society is filled with examples of ordinary women who have accomplished extraordinary things as they have exercised faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

I am an ordinary woman and I desire to do extraordinary things. I know as I partner with the Lord and turn to Him with an eye single to His glory, my life can be filled with 'extraordinary' each day.

Relief Society was established to help prepare daughters of God for the blessings of eternal life.

I am seeking to live in such a way that the blessings of eternal life – God’s way of living – are mine, and my family’s, today and every day, as well as throughout all eternity. We are promised we can live a portion of the Celestial law here upon the earth, to the degree that we are willing to receive and act upon the covenants, privileges and blessings made available to us by a loving and merciful God, and through the enabling power of the Atonement of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The purposes of Relief Society are to:
  •   increase faith and personal righteousness,
  •   strengthen families and homes, and
  •    provide relief by seeking out and helping those in need.

Women fulfill these purposes as they seek, receive, and act on personal revelation in their callings and in their personal lives.

What a powerful principle/promise! I wrote my ‘life statement’ last night, and the influence of the purposes of RS are not lost on me and my choice of structure and wording:

  • Power and Peace thru Obedience
  • A Home Built after the Manner of God
  •  Love thru Service
I believe I will be able to fulfill these purposes as I seek, receive and ACT ON personal revelation in my life.

Through historical accounts, personal experiences, scriptures, and words of latter-day prophets and Relief Society leaders, this book teaches about the responsibilities and opportunities Latter-day Saint women are given in Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness.

Thru studying this work, I will learn about the responsibilities and opportunities that I am/have been/will be given in Father’s plan of happiness for me.

Oh, I agree! I LOVE Sis. Beck and personally will miss her. She spoke to me - I feel like I've known her for a long time as she was serving as a counciler in the YW General Presidency when I was in YW and I have adored her since then! I'm going to study the book too. I think Mom would have loved it too.

I totally loved reading your post! You should post things more often. Our Stake RS president issued the challenge for us all to read the book before General Conference and I haven't finished, but I love that book. I too will miss Sister Beck and all the wonderful words of wisdom she has offered through the years.
